Croatia & Montenegro Fly Drive Holiday

Treat yourself to a once in a lifetime journey through the endless beauty that is Croatia & Montenegro. You will find your personally requested vehicle waiting for you the second you arrive in Croatia. No taxis, no shuttle-buses just the easiest route of travel at your own convenience.

The main advantage of a Fly Drive Holiday is that we can provide assistance in creating your very own tailor-made itinerary for your holiday to Croatia & Montenegro. See as much or as little of Croatia & Montenegro as you choose. You are able to begin your holiday at a choice of locations including: PULA, ZADAR, SPLIT or DUBROVNIK, according to your preference and the amount of time you have available for your holiday.

We have provided a choice of basic itineraries, which you can select on the online enquiry form, that enable you to customise your holiday to your own personal liking. When planning your trip, we would recommend two nights at each location so your trip isn't too rushed and you are able to visit the most important places of interest. It is possible to vary the number of nights, however, and if you have any particular requirements just let us know in the comments section of the enquiry form.

Croatia

The popularity of Croatia as a destination continues to grow from strength to strength and there are many good reasons for this.

From the 1950’s the former Yugoslavia was the holiday destination that allowed millions of British to have their first taste of going abroad.

By the end of the 1980’s, before the break-up of Yugoslavia, the country was the UK’s most popular overseas holiday destination. Beach holidays will always be popular but these days we are always looking for bargain holidays and we are more open to experiencing the culture of a foreign destination.

Pula

The most famous sight in Pula – of course – is the Roman amphitheatre, which is called The Arena. Built during the 1st century AD and completed under the reign of Emperor Flavius, this amphitheatre is the sixth largest in the world (of those that still exist). The three-storey structure held 23,000 spectators in Roman times and today hosts numerous concerts and events throughout the year, including Pula Film Festival screenings.

Croatia has it all, with plenty of secluded coves along its Adriatic coast. The area around Split, in the North, is particularly popular for beaches and then as you head south towards Dubrovnik you will have plenty of opportunities to experience local culture and visit historic sites.

Zadar

Zadar is the main city in North Dalmatia with over 76,000 inhabitants. Most famous for its Old Town, set in a peninsula that is completely pedestrianised, the town has numerous Roman and other wonderful sights – some rather modern – so is a delight to visit.

Zadar is perhaps sometimes overlooked as a place to visit in Croatia, possibly because it is slightly out of the way of the delights further south in Dalmatia. However, it really is a charming town and you won’t regret spending some time here. Why not start your holiday here before heading further down the coast?

Split

The Roman Emperor, Diocletian, built a palace in Split in the 4th Century. The sprawling remains of more than 200 buildings are well worth a visit.

The glorious white stone of the island of Brac was used for building Diocletian’s palace and more recently the White House in Washington DC. You are able to reach the island by taking your car on the Jadrolinija ferry from Split or Makarska. Be sure to take your bathing costume to enjoy the photogenic beach of Zlatni Rat. Explore the interior of the island too, which is home to dozens of abandoned villages.

The scenery is outstandingly beautiful and Croatia offers excellent value for money with the GB Pound holding its own against the Kuna. The best time to visit is from May to June or from September to October in order to avoid the higher peak-travel prices.

The Mediterranean climate along the Adriatic coast makes it is easy to combine beach life with historic towns and soaring mountains. Croatia has eight national parks for you to explore with stunning lakes and water-falls.

Dubrovnik

Continuing your holiday, head to the City of Dubrovnik – an elite destination and one of the most beautiful towns in the Mediterranean. George Bernard Shaw famously said “those who seek paradise on Earth should come to Dubrovnik and find it”. Dubrovnik has a wealth of architecture with stunning sculptural detail and has spectacular churches, monasteries, museums and fountains for you to while away the hours in this splendid city.

The Old Town and its many sights (including the well-preserved city walls along which you can walk) is one of the top attractions here. If you are visiting in the summer, do not miss the world-renowned Dubrovnik Summer Festival, with music, theatre and dance performances.

Why not enjoy amazing breathtaking views of the Old Town and Elaphiti Islands by taking a ride on Dubrovnik's Cable Car. The best views of Dubrovnik can be obtained on a ride to the top of Mount Srdj.

Montenegro

From Dubrovnik cross the border into Montenegro.

During your stay in Montenegro, you will be located in the elegant and luxury destination town of Perast.

You will not leave Montenegro with indifference to its beauty and medieval history. Your journey to Perast will take you along the picturesque coastal road of the bay of Kotor.

With strong Venetian architectural influences, Perast was once the seafaring capital of this stretch of coastline. The highlights of this town are offshore in the form of two island churches, where it is believed one of them – “Our Lady of the Rocks” – was erected by locals depositing stones around a rock apparition of Madonna & Child.

Travelling a little further along the coast you will come to the town of Kotor. Trapped in time this town offers a fascinating look at the maritime history of the area and the opportunity to sample some wonderful seafood at the local restaurants.

Old Kotor was built like a maze for protective purposes and it is very easy to get lost in its winding streets and alleyways – even the locals get lost occasionally. The prominent landmark of the 12th Century St Tryphon Cathedral will help you keep your bearings.

At the end of your stay, enjoy a leisurely drive to Dubrovnik Airport for your return journey to the UK.

There are so many different options available for any particular holiday that provide opportunitie for a more cost effective price or upgrades with certain hotels that you might miss out on a better deal.

We strongly believe that a real person is better able to make intuitive decisions about a holiday enquiry than a computer programme that will not have the same dedication or commitment to providing the best possible service.

ALSO, why should you waste your time searching for a great deal when we can do it for you - with a personal touch. Rest assured, you will always be dealing with a real live person and you will have direct contact with the same person all the time. It is also important to remember, however, that prices change all the time (particularly the cost of flights) and it is with this in mind, that we would urge you to try and confirm the booking as soon as possible.
